Open-Top Containers

20-Foot Open Top

Tarpaulin roof over a 20-foot frame for crane loading and over-height cargo.

20 ft

20-foot open top container with a red tarpaulin roof cover
20' L | 8' W

Container overview

The 20-foot open top replaces the fixed steel roof with removable roof bows and a tarpaulin. Cargo can be lowered in from above by crane, and the swinging header bar above the end doors can be released so long pieces are fed in horizontally.

The configuration is used for machinery, cut stone, glass, pipe, timber and any piece too heavy or awkward to move through a standard door opening. Cargo that projects above the roof line is treated as out-of-gauge, and the projection has to be declared and approved with the carrier before booking.

The tarpaulin and roof bows must be refitted and sealed after loading unless the cargo is declared over-height.
