Pro Box Inc. was founded in 1993 and has spent more than 30 years in the shipping-container and international transportation business. Containers are our sole focus, every day.
Where it started
Founded in 1993. Still one business.
Pro Box, Inc. was founded in 1993 and incorporated in Texas in 1994 by Steve McVille, its CEO. The company was started for one purpose: selling containers.
That focus never drifted. Pro Box's niche has always been the purchase and sale of ISO cargo-worthy, CSC-plated shipping containers — better known in the trade as shipper-owned containers.
Thirty years later the phones still work the same way. A forwarder calls with a tight date and an odd requirement, and someone who has actually stood in a yard picks up.
Our founder
Steve McVille
Steve McVille on LinkedInBorn into a family of seafarers, it seems only natural that Steve McVille carried on the tradition.
Steve's grandfather, Capt. Anguiz, was born in Barcelona, Spain, and eventually became commodore of the Great White Fleet of the United Fruit Company, headquartered in New Orleans. Steve's mother worked for the Bar Pilots Association in New Orleans. His three brothers were mariners as well.
Steve became a steamship agent in 1977 and attended Tulane University in the evenings, boarding ships at night to pay his tuition. After earning his bachelor's degree in business, and while working at Care Shipping, he agreed to a transfer to Houston — where, in 1993, he started Pro Box, Inc.
A family of seafarers, a night-school degree paid for by boarding ships, and a container company built in Houston. That is the short version.
Built on shipping experience
Thirty years in the biz, on both sides of the booking.
Steve's background in the container shipping industry includes 15 years with steamship agencies and shipping lines, followed by three decades as a container supplier with Pro Box.
That experience was earned on the job: container terminal operations, vessel operations, equipment control, container maintenance and repair, and container purchasing.
It is the reason a Pro Box conversation tends to move fast. When someone describes a booking, a prefix problem or a survey deadline, we have usually seen that exact situation from the other side of the desk.
Steamship & agency background
Years of experience within shipping lines and steamship agencies—spanning bookings, documentation, and vessel operations—provide a firsthand carrier perspective.
Terminal & equipment operations
Experience across terminal and vessel operations, equipment control, maintenance, and repair provides a practical understanding of container condition, serviceability, and operational readiness.
International transportation
Knowledge of export movements, international transportation processes, carrier requirements, and supporting documentation informs the selection and supply of container equipment for each shipment.
Container sourcing
Purchasing and equipment-control experience helps us match each shipment with the right container.
Pro Box today
Shipper-owned containers for international freight.
Today, Pro Box specializes in shipper-owned containers (SOCs) for international freight, supporting multi-container shipments and complex project requirements.
We supply cargo-worthy equipment and coordinate inspections, cargo-worthy certification, and neutralization where applicable to help clearly identify the equipment as shipper-owned throughout the booking and documentation process.
